Baseball and Tacos, Take 2 - Free Tacos!

Exactly one year ago today, I first posted about Taco Bell's Steal a Base. Steal a Taco. promotion. In the 2007 World Series, Taco Bell ran this promotion promising to give away free tacos for everyone if any player on the Boston Red Sox or the Colorado Rockies stole a base in one of the World Series games. The promotion generated a lot of buzz, even among the players!

On October 26th in game 2 of the World Series, Jacoby Ellsbury of the Boston Red Sox stole second base, winning everyone a free taco! This wasn't the first time Taco Bell tried out a free taco promotion but it was the first time they had to give out free tacos.

So now that we're up to speed, Taco Bell is running the Steal a Base. Steal a Taco. promotion again for this years 2008 World Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies. This is a pretty bold move considering the Rays and Phillies were 1st and 4th in total stolen bases for all of Major League Baseball with 142 and 136 stolen bases respectively. Whats more is that Philadelphia lead all of Major League Baseball in Stolen Base Percentage swiping the base 84% of the time a steal was attempted.

Taco Bell had to know they were going to be giving away free tacos, and guess what, they are! In the bottom of the fifth inning of last nights game, the first game of the 2008 World Series, the Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett stole second base winning everyone free tacos!! In fact, there were four stolen bases in last nights game. Philadelphia won the game 3-2 in case you're wondering.

So taco lovers, here are the Taco Bell Steal a Base. Steal a Taco. free taco details:
Run on down to any participating Taco Bell location between
2pm and 6pm on Tuesday, October 28, 2008
to get one (1) free Crunchy Seasoned Beef Taco.
Buen apetito!

  2. Jon, It's a conspiracy against you to save Taco Bell the 77 cents per taco!

There is one in the Cambridgeside Galleria right next to my office...but I'm going to be in NY!
